Do you suffer from Info-FOMO?

Can AI help us deal with information overload?

A progressive’s guide to influence in the AI age

If you’re anything like me, you probably don’t open most of the newsletters you subscribe to.

It’s understandable but the idea that there’s valuable information out there that we don’t have time to consume can create a sense of ‘Info-FOMO’.

Many of us worry about the gap between the information we are able to consume and the information we feel we should consume.

The good news is we are here to help.

Information overload is nothing new.

Believe it or not, humans have been worrying about it since the beginning of history.

Every so often a new technology comes along and we panic all over again.

The latest technology to trigger this kind of concern is generative AI.

Its ability to pump out content at a speed and scale we’ve not seen before is a legitimate concern when it comes to the quality and quantity of information we are expected to navigate.

We are entering a period of lag between the ability of technology to generate information and the ability of humans to effectively filter it.

This is why the first of five challenges we will look to address through our applied AI experiments is information overload.

We are going to explore whether we can use AI to create a personalised information digest.

This tool would automatically read newsletters and media articles and summarise them for us according to a personalised set of criteria.

In my case this might be to tag relevant content to each of the five trends re-shaping our information environment.

For organisations this could mean staff sharing everything they find interesting and producing a daily summary aligned to thematic or strategic interests.

We’ll let you know how we get on.

P.S Next time you hear from Rootcause, the email will come from Nick Scott. Nick is working with us on our 5 AI challenges and as you will discover, is currently working on the nuts and bolts….until then…..
